SIR FRANCIS BACON SKIS
SIR FRANCIS BACON DETAILS
POLLARD'S ONE SKI QUIVER
The 2012 Line Sir Francis Bacon ski has been completely re-designed by Eric for a level of quickness & versatility previously considered impossible in this width, yet with enough float to be worthy of Pollard’s name. Its new break through lower Early Rise™ tip geometry PLANES INSTEAD OF PLOWS in the pow, while the length of Early Taper™ has actually been reduced vs. past years to put much more Active Edge™ length in contact with the snow for MORE GRIP & LESS SLIP. The Bacon’s new smooth reliable flex pattern feels like an extension of your feet, literally carving on a dime as well as it can float in the powder. This is the next level of Pollard approved fun, for everywhere on the mountain.
ERIC POLLARD - "Over the past decade I have designed and skied over 100 different prototypes in search of skis that allow me to ride the mountain the way I want to. We have gone to every extreme from super fat 140mm to narrow, to super short, to over 200cm long, extreme Early Rise to no Early Rise, lots of side cuts to reverse sidecut, blunt tips, pointy tips. We have applied every flex pattern we can think of, mounted each ski in different locations and analyzed the differences over and over again, to learn so much from each ski. The new Opus and the Bacon are the culmination of the last 13 years of work. They blend a perfect mix of flex, sidecut, tip shape, overall shape/ footprint, mounting point, Early rise, Early taper, and camber. They are honestly the best skis I have ever skied."

SIR FRANCIS BACON ART

When he’s not slashing pow switch, Eric Pollard likes to unplug at his home in Oregon and paint. Luckily his unmatched style transitions from snow to the canvas, and especially to our skis. Instead of us telling you about his work, why not have Pollard himself give a little insight into this graphic.
What was the inspiration for this graphic?
I receive constant inspiration from where I live in the northwest, I'm surrounded by trees. I chose to do a take of a sitka tree for the Bacon graphic. I had done a tree and root system on a graphic before that I really liked. It was a pen and ink drawing, so this year I wanted to do a very similar layout, but change the medium to oil on canvas.
Describe your creative process:
Each year I just leave my mind open and take in what I experience throughout the year. Then in the spring when the winter is over I usually have an idea, a sketch, photos, or a concept to base the graphics on. From that point I elaborate on sketches, or take the idea and draw a basic layout. When I have an idea of how the art will layout on the ski, I then begin to paint the final. Over the years I have learned a lot from all the graphics we have made. I have tried so many different mediums. I wanted to make the graphics very clean and contrast to other ski graphics.
How long does the process take?
Depends. Typically takes me about a week to draw and create a clear vision for the concept. It usually takes me a day or two to paint the final. Then the final has to dry, which can take another week depending on the medium. Once the painting is dry I scan the painting in prepare the file for the graphic design process. Next I place the painting on a template, create logos, and finally a base graphic. All together each ski takes me about two weeks from start to finish.
What time of year do you do most of your art?
The spring/ summer.
How does skiing influence your art?
Skiing is my life, so it dictates what I experience throughout the year, which in turn translates to what I paint or draw. As cliche as it may seem, I really do see some aspects of skiing as an art. Skiing is much more to me than just acrobatics or charging big mountains. I love the entire experience of being in the mountains, choosing a face, and drawing a line down it. Where you make your turn, how you hold your body in the air, and what pace you choose to ski at reflects what you are striving for.

Comments about Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon:
If I could describe the ski in one word, that word would be unbelievable! The SFBs are in my opinion the best ski ever made. They are the easiest ski to slay switch in every condition on the mountain, the ski with very little effort just rolls perfectly into the next turn. I ski mostly in Norther Colorado and see most conditions even ice, and let me tell you I wouldn't have any other ski in the world. The ski by far preforms best in the Pow but racks up bangers in the park as well. I mounted mine at center and couldn't be happier, it is an aggressive stance for most skis in the powder but not for the SFBs. They float so buttery in the pow and rip hard on groomers and the rest of the mountain. You can never have too much fun on these skis. You will not regret having this ski.

Comments about Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon:
Last year i wasn't sure if i should really buy the bacons as they seemed too fat to own as my only pair of skis. Upon riding them for the first time i immediately realized i had been wrong.
After last season (horrible season in Switzerland) i realized that even having spent a lot of the time on the groomers, the bacons had been the funnest/best skis i had ever ridden. I was especially surprised when i went into park with them for the first time. They are light enough to have some fun there. Honestly (not being very good in park) i felt no limitations on the skis part when i tried them out in the park.
They are at their best in the powder and just give you the smoothest and funnest ride possible.

Comments about Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon:
I ski Mt Hood which i get every kind of snow condition minus the icy stuff. Its hard to say weather i like skiing fat lines are just high speed carves on Bacons. Both are equally enjoyable. I take them in the park too which skis surprisingly well. Very agility yet will keep you on top of the powder.

Comments about Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon:
The Bacons are where it's at. And where it's at, is everywhere. Easily controlled whether on packed, groomed, fresh, or bumpy. The Bacons have a lively radius that's both playful and stable, more forgiving than the Opuses.

Comments about Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon:
The Sir Francis Bacon is my mid-winter, "go-to" stick. The ski performs best on the days when it snows 14" or less. It's great for days when you are in-bounds for the morning after a storm and hiking for turns in the afternoon. The ski's tip and tail splay make it a dream in powder! The design allows you to have an aggressive ski stance without the worry of your tips diving under the snowpack. I love that you can really lean into turns and shmear or drive your edges even when it's soft.
For the SUPER DEEP days (15 inches+) the waist is a little small... Get the Mr P's Opus.

Comments about Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon:
Amazing in the powder, and great on groomers. For it's size under foot it does really well on groomers, in crud, and in moguls. I've skied this ski in PA, VT, CO, and UT. It can do it all. It can even excel in the park. I don't see myself ever buying a different ski.

Comments about Line Skis Sir Francis Bacon:
Fantastic ski! This ski will ski anything. Worth every penny, though the top-sheets and sides will not take any beating whatsoever with out getting rough and cosmetically unappealing. But these are just awesome. I get 8-9 compliments on them every time I ski. GO LINE!
