PROPHET 90 ART

When he’s not slashing pow switch, Eric Pollard likes to unplug at his home in Oregon and paint. Luckily his unmatched style transitions from snow to the canvas, and especially to our skis. Instead of us telling you about his work, why not have Pollard himself give a little insight into this graphic.

What was the inspiration for this graphic?
This prophet graphic came from a painting I did for my sister years ago.  The mountains were inspired by all the mountains I have traveled to.  Each range has it's own unique shape.

Describe your creative process:
Each year I just leave my mind open and take in what I experience throughout the year. Then in the spring when the winter is over I usually have an idea, a sketch, photos, or a concept to base the graphics on. From that point I elaborate on sketches, or take the idea and draw a basic layout. When I have an idea of how the art will layout on the ski, I then begin to paint the final. Over the years I have learned a lot from all the graphics we have made. I have tried so many different mediums. I wanted to make the graphics very clean and contrast to other ski graphics.

How long does the process take?
Depends. Typically takes me about a week to draw and create a clear vision for the concept. It usually takes me a day or two to paint the final. Then the final has to dry, which can take another week depending on the medium. Once the painting is dry I scan the painting in prepare the file for the graphic design process. Next I place the painting on a template, create logos, and finally a base graphic. All together each ski takes me about two weeks from start to finish.

What time of year do you do most of your art?
The spring/ summer.

How does skiing influence your art?
Skiing is my life, so it dictates what I experience throughout the year, which in turn translates to what I paint or draw. As cliche as it may seem, I really do see some aspects of skiing as an art. Skiing is much more to me than just acrobatics or charging big mountains. I love the entire experience of being in the mountains, choosing a face, and drawing a line down it. Where you make your turn, how you hold your body in the air, and what pace you choose to ski at reflects what you are striving for.

Comments about Line Skis Prophet 90:

I use this ski for everything except boxes and rails, but if you wanted to, I'm sure you could. This ski is very sturdy, yet agile. The only place in big mountain skiing that I don't absolutely love it is in deep powder. I primarily got this ski because it seemed like a solid "everything" ski for competition. I was very satisfied with the ski for everything, especially in competition. In one day I skied corn, crud and chalky winter snow, and it handled great in all of them.

Comments about Line Skis Prophet 90:

First year on Line, skiing mostly in the east. Rented S3's at Whistler for one day in March and regretted every minute of it. There was no comparison. The 90s are responsive and quick on typical eastern groomers. They blast through crud, float well and generally do everything I ask of them. They even felt comfortable in icy conditions, but I would not give them quite as high marks. My 7 year old daughter likes dragging me into the pipe and terrain parks, but at 46 I am too [*] old to really judge their performance. Tips are chipping, but I skied straight skis for so long (Olin Comp SL and Mark VII from before the factory closed in '87) that I keep my legs awfully tight. The same thing happened to my two year old K2 Apaches, but worse. As an older skier who loves steeps, moguls and glades, but who's knees and VO2 max love groomers, this ski handles it all well. By far my favorite ski of the four listed above.

Comments about Line Skis Prophet 90:

East coast Canada telemarker. Fit these with NTN bindings and they did everything I wanted! Am 6'1 and 180lbs, and they rocked. I really thought they were stable in all types of snow and speed. I know they really aren't made for it, but I fit them with skins (scratched the tips and tails up a bit) and they were great in the woods as well.

Am very glad that I got these. Good weight (I had the 186cm's)and a lot of fun.

Comments about Line Skis Prophet 90:

I have been skiing for over 12 years and these are by far the best skis I have ever skied with. I ski all over the US but mostly in Aspen Snowmass and Aspen. As well as Deer Valley, Park City Utah. I have never owned skis before but Im so glad these are my first. Also I have never skied with LINE skis before but let me tell you, after owning these I will always ski with Line Skis. I have only skied once with them (today) and I couldn't wait to get back to the condo and write this review. If you want a ski that does it all on the mountain: groomers ripping it in the thick pow, or trekking through tree trails, or even moguls on black diamonds this ski is for you. I have never experienced a more versatile ski that can ride the pow but edge on groomers like no other, and boy are these things fast! BUY these skis

Been a Volkl guy for years. No more. The prophet 90 is rock solid in some very fast carves. But I'm 56 and that's how I ski. Extremely responsive and nearly to hot for this old guy, but what a blast!

Comments about Line Skis Prophet 90:

After 20 years of skiing theses are my all time favs. Perfect ski for me. 6' and 185 lbs. I ski the 179cm. This ski goes everywhere in and around EC resorts. If you hit a terrain variation awkward these skis tend to skip right over it allowing you to recover. In other words, it is a true Cadillac of All-Mountain. Crud, Ice, and Soft this ski handles everything the East Coast offers. These like a little juice when it comes to speed. It takes a bit more work than some skis in the moguls but handles them with style, especially if you hit an icy spot on you descent. Small skier-made bumps will not toss these around whatsoever. So-so for hardpack/groomed carving but just enough to feel comfortable at high speed. If you are a true East Coast All-Mountain fanatic (advancing intermediate and above) these are your skis. Not sure about lightweight skiers otherwise, BUY THEM!

Comments about Line Skis Prophet 90:

I Ride these skis on the East Coast. I'm from PA, so I ski a lot of PA, New York and West Virginia. These skis flat out rip anywhere. Recent I took them to Killington Vermont and couldn't be happier. They're so powerful, the destroy any snow condition you will find. Fellow East Coaster's know that we can go from Ice, to Crud to a Few inches of powder to Groomers all on the same day, and these things could care less. They hold edge so well, and are so maneuvarable in any snow. Great for big guys, i'm 6' 4" 225 pounds and they are super sturdy for me, even at speed. Bottom Line, if you want to rip any snow condition, and become a better, more powerful skier, get the Prophet 90's.

I've had a lot of skis over the last 20 years but these are just about perfect for me. From the ice and rocks of New England's unpredictable glades (where I spend most of my time), to the waist deep powder of Colorado's blue sky basin. (where I spend most of my daydreams)If you love the woods no matter what the conditions are and want skis that share your enthusiasm buy these!

            Too good to be true

Comments about Line Skis Prophet 90:

I ski in California and Colorado about 45 days a year... These things will power through anything! Powder, trees, groomers, you name it. I'm not the biggest park rider so I can't vouch much for that, but if you are looking for an amazing ski this is the ticket. You don't see these on the mountain too often and I have received many compliments on the design. Great value!

Used in VT first weekend out in packed powder, some powder, ice,and loose granular. Performed well in all conditions with great stability, speed, and quickness for their size. Very surprised with the agility because of the metal. Really fun ski. Bottom line, awesome all mountain ski that you can use for anything.
